** About me

The facts: My Name is Daniel and I’m born in September 1985, that means that I’m currently 23yo, but that changes from year to year. I was born in small town named Lohne which is located in north-west Germany where i grew up and lived for my first 19 years before i moved to Hamburg where I lived until I sold my apartment and all my other stuff except my backpack and the stuff which fills the backpack in April 2009.

My education: I’ve got quite a senseless education as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant but I’m pretty sure that I won’t work in this sector again. I’ve got a german A-Level-certificate and if I will ever come back to Germany I feel more like using that one to enter an university to study something senseful like sociology or social work ;-) .

My free time: The big thing for me definitely is travelling and that’s where I really see my future ;-) I travelled in 42 countries inside europe and northern africa so far and, as you see on this page, I really wanna continue. I mostly travel by hitchhiking, my biggest trips by thumb so far brought me to Iceland, Sicily, the north cape in Norway, Turkey, all over eastern- and south-eastern europe and all the way down to Morocco. Travelling is really something I call existantial for me. Oh, and I love football. In Germany I support the 1st division club VFB Stuttgart and the 5th Division Club Altona 93 from Hamburg and I’m pretty sure that one of the things I will miss most on my trip will be the sunday afternoons in the cosy stadium of Altona 93 watching them loosing with a beer in my hand. But I really like it to watch football in foreign countries as well because I think it’s a good way to get to know the mentality of the locals a little bit. When it comes to music I’m pretty much into Punkrock, Ska and Reggae music.

My principles: I am vegan. That means, that I try not to eat any animal product like meat and fish (I don’t see a difference between this two anyway), milk, eggs or honey and that I don’t consume any product which contains animal products, of course. I don”t wear leather or wool clothes either. I do that in responsibility to animals, humans and nature and I will try to keep it up during my trip as best as I can, too. But of course I know that it won’t be possible to live completely and strightly vegan all the time in all countries, just the language barrier will be a big problem for that. If you meet me you don’t have to be afraid that I’m talking to you how worse it is to eat meat or that I will try to convince you to a vegetarian or vegan diet, no, I won’t. A friend once said: “He’s a good vegan, not one of the asshole ones” ;-) . Beside being a vegan I’m pretty much a leftie when it comes to politics. I really like the song “Baby, I’m an anarchist” from “Against Me!” even if the “Baby” is tendencially sexist or ageist (hehe, just a joke). I really don’t like racism, xenophobia, speciesism, homophobia or any other kind of intolerance and I try to do something against these things inside the possibilities which are given to me. I don’t like the military as well and in Germany I was involved in some anti-nuclear power movements or actions, too. Save the planet! Oh, and I like beer but decline any other kind of hard alcohol or drugs for myself. I still have this cigarette-addiction-problem but I try to get rid off that at the moment.

I think that’s almost all I want to tell the world about me, if you’ve got any further questions, feel free to contact me!
